From 4 to 6 September 2024, the University of Kairouan organised the first edition of the Doctoriales, a high-calibre academic event that forms part of the RAQMYAT project.
Objective and theme
The theme of the event, “Digital bibliography and methods: selection and exploitation”, reflects the ambition to bring HSS research closer to modern digital tools. The aim is to equip doctoral students with cross-disciplinary skills to meet market needs and facilitate their professional integration.
Course of the Doctoriales
The event kicked off with a series of lectures focusing on subjects crucial to modern research. These included a presentation on the ethics of scientific research, which served as a reminder of the responsibilities of researchers and the standards to be observed. A second lecture looked at the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in scientific research, a rapidly developing field that offers many opportunities for the HSS.
The afternoon was devoted to practical workshops, notably on the application of AI in research and theatrical skills to improve oral communication.
The programme also included a workshop on sustainable entrepreneurship in HSS, highlighting how research can be linked to economic development. Another highlight was a conference on paperless thesis submission, which showed how digitisation facilitates bibliographic management and knowledge sharing.
A successful first edition
The conference was a success, demonstrating the importance of digital technologies in modernising doctoral training in Tunisia. Participants acquired key skills, strengthened their research practices and learned how to better manage the challenges of the contemporary academic world. This first edition promises to become a regular and unmissable event for Tunisian doctoral students.
