Doctoriales at the University of Tunis El Manar (UTM) were held from 2 to 4 May at the Faculty of Economics and Management. This academic event is part of the RAQMYAT project and brought together researchers and doctoral students to discuss the challenges and opportunities of integrating digital technologies into doctoral training in the Human and Social Sciences (HSS).
A promising start
The opening ceremony was marked by the intervention of the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Samia Karoui Zouaoui, who emphasized the importance of digitizing the social and human sciences, highlighting how the RAQMYAT project enhances the value of these disciplines using digital technologies. The President of the UTM, Prof. Moez Chafra, praised the efforts made to organize the Doctoriales, saying that this project would help to raise the profile and impact of the UTM’s research on an international scale.
Other speakers included the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Political Science in Tunis, Prof. Mustapha Beltaief, Prof. Kaouther Saied Ben Rached, Director of the doctoral school at the UTM’s Faculty of Economics and Management, and the scientific coordinator of the RAQMYAT project, Prof. Sihem Najjar of the University of La Manouba, who presented the project and its usefulness in improving the training of doctoral schools in HSS in Tunisia’s higher education system.
Enlightening Conferences and Workshops
The event was punctuated by four lectures on the following topics:
- “Digital humanities and ethical and social challenges”by Prof. Youssef Ben Othman, Director General of the Centre d’études et de recherches économiques (CERES), who explored the ethical implications of artificial intelligence on intellectual production.
- “Dive into new trends in bibliographic research”, by Prof. Henda El Fekih from the National Engineering School of Tunis of the UTM, discussing recent developments in HSS research methodologies.
- “What scenarios for the evolution of the University under the influence of Artificial Intelligence (AI)?”, by Karim Ben Kahla, National Engineering School of Tunis, who will discuss the paradigmatic transformations of higher education in the digital era.
- “Law and digitization”, by Prof. Salma Abid-Mnif, Senior Lecturer in Public Law, who analyses the legislative challenges posed by digital technologies.
In addition, the UTM’s doctoriales also saw the organization of workshops that enabled participants to familiarize themselves with practical tools such as artificial intelligence at the service of HSS research, digital education and bibliometric analysis of scientific publications, not forgetting, however, the controversies surrounding artificial intelligence.
A Successful Closing
Doctoriales closed with the presentation of participation certificates and a convivial coffee break. All in all, the 2024 Doctoriales at the University of Tunis El Manar were a success, offering a rich platform for exchanges and learning for researchers in HSS. Doctoriales provide an opportunity to disseminate the activities of the RAQMYAT project to doctoral students from the partner universities, increasing the scope for debate on a subject as important as digital technology in HSS, and opening the university to the socio-economic world to help the university become more firmly rooted in Tunisian society and community.
