The Doctoriales held on 9 and 10 September 2024 at the Virtual University of Tunis, were a must-attend event for doctoral students and researchers in the humanities and social sciences (HSS).

Organised as part of the RAǪMYAT project, these days brought together researchers, teachers and doctoral students to discuss the challenges and opportunities associated with digital innovations, at the Institut Supérieur de l’Éducation et de la Formation Continue (ISEFC) of the Virtual University of Tunis.

An event to strengthen digital skills

The event offered participants a space to reflect on the technological challenges of HSS research, combining lectures and practical workshops.

Three key conferences characterised these days:

  1. “Digital Humanities: Missing Interdisciplinary Field”, delivered by Dr Bootheina Majoul from the Higher Institute of Languages of Tunis, analysed the still incomplete integration of digital humanities in HSS research.
  2. “Ethical Issues in Research in the Age of Artificial Intelligence”, presented by Dr. Hallouma Boussada, highlighted the ethical dilemmas posed by new technologies in academic research.
  3. “Eduverse and the Future of HSS Research: Navigating the Integrated Metaverse”, presented by Dr. Dorsaf Ben Malek, explored the potential of the metaverse in transforming academic research.

On the other hand, practical workshops were a central component of the event, offering doctoral students a valuable opportunity to acquire skills directly applicable to their research projects. Each of the workshops covered a range of topics, from artificial intelligence to statistical analysis and open educational resources, highlighting the diversity of digital tools available to Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) researchers.

Digital technology: a stimulating challenge

The Doctoriales of the Virtual University of Tunis 2024 offered doctoral students a stimulating opportunity to discuss digital innovations applied to research in the social sciences and humanities. The event not only highlighted key ethical and technological challenges, but also offered practical tools to adapt their research to technological developments.

The RAQMYAT project thus continues to support the digital transition of young Tunisian researchers, preparing the future of scientific research in an increasingly digital world.
