
Founded in 1991, UNIMED - Mediterranean Universities Union - is a network of 179 higher education and research institutions from 25 countries, active in the promon of academic cooperation in the Euro-Mediterranean region, in Sub-Saharan Africa, in the Middle East and the Western Balkans.

UMA is a multidisciplinary Tunisian public university. Created in 2000, the year of the founding of the governorate of Manouba, twenty years later, it brings together a united set of 15 academic institutions for education and research dating back, for some, from before the first texts establishing the Tunisian national university in March 1960. In 2022, the UMA had 17,357 students, 1,236 teachers and 761 administrative, technical and worker (ATOS) staff. It offers 125 diplomas in the different levels of training, namely 01 preparatory cycle for language studies, 30 Bachelor’s degrees, 75 Masters in Research and Professional Studies, 01 National Diploma of Veterinary Medicine and 16 Doctorates based on a dynamic research ecosystem with 3 Doctoral Schools federating 34 research structures ( Laboratories and Units) and a Research Institute specialized in various scientific fields. Developed gradually around the Faculty of Letters, Arts and Humanities of Manouba, the UMA now has several assets that give it a privileged position in the Tunisian academic landscape and contribute to its international influence. Aware of the importance of the internationalization of training and research for its impact, UMA has also succeeded in forging close and balanced relationships with a range of institutions, of formal centres, organisations and universities with 98 cooperation agreements in 28 partner countries. This stable network of international partners is an asset that has allowed the UMA to develop co-graduation and co-guardianship training and to support the mobility of its community. This effort has also led to increased capacity-building projects and the number of bilateral and multilateral research projects obtained in cooperation with several countries and on different funding lines.

The University of Tunis El Manar (UTM) is a public university with scientific and technological character, created in 1987, it is composed of 15 institutions, covering a wide range of disciplines, it is considered one of the main universities of the country, offering a wide variety of study programs in different disciplines, including science, technology, social sciences and the humanities. The University of Tunis El Manar has several strengths: 1. A qualified and experienced teaching staff; the university’s teachers are recognized for their expertise and commitment to the development of Tunisia. 2. Modern infrastructures including research laboratories, research and development centres, such as the Pasteur Institute and the Veterinary Research Institute, UTM invests in cutting-edge technology to provide a high quality learning experience for its students. 3. Quality research, which contributes to the advancement of knowledge in several areas. 4. International partnerships which allows its students and teachers to benefit from international exchange and collaboration programs. 5. A commitment to the promotion of culture and knowledge; UTM promotes an atmosphere of respect and tolerance for all identities and cultures, by raising awareness among students and organizing events and programs that celebrate diversity.

Founded in 1986, the University of Sousse is today a public higher education institution with a scientific technological status comprising 17 faculties, institutes, schools, covering a wide range of training, from the exact sciences to the humanities, from accounting to anthropology, and from marketing to medicine. The University of Sousse has more than 28,608 students, 2,175 academic staff, 25 laboratories, 3 research units, 6 doctoral schools and 919 administrative staff. In a dynamic and sustained scientific approach, the university has, in recent years, promoted indexed research, certified training and accredited teaching in its institutions. Sousse University has also developed a dynamic international profile of partnership and cooperation with UN organizations, European agencies, civil society associations and higher education institutions around the world.

The University of Kairouan (UniK) is a young public institution created in 2004. She provides scientific and educational supervision for 12 university institutions in the three governorates of Kairouan, Kasserine and Sidi Bouzid. The UniK has 1,965 employees (academic, administrative and technical staff), 11,280 students enrolled in 2023/2024.

The University of Sfax (USF) was established in 1986, it comprises 19 higher education institutions in various disciplines and offers four main areas: - Basic and technical sciences - Law, management and economics - Languages, arts and humanities - Medical and health sciences, sports and physical education. The University has 2420 permanent teachers and researchers, 1221 administrative staff and approximately 30173 students. The University of Sfax has 5 doctoral schools, 81 research laboratories, 25 research units and 11 common services units for research.

In 2018, the University of Tunis celebrated its sixtieth anniversary because it was not created ex nihilo. Built on previous institutions, it brought together pioneering elements in a synergy and convergence that led to a legally recognized structure. It was the 1958 law on educational reform that gave him a pre-birth. It was a synthetic text, which established the de facto existence of an fragmented higher education system. Two years later, the decree of 13 March 1960 will be the official birth certificate of a national university which succeeds in bringing together scattered courses and disparate sections, which were the place of higher education. Since 1960, several pieces of legislation have been adopted to organise higher education and scientific research. In December 1987, our university was renamed the University of Letters, Arts and Humanities. In 2000, it regained its original designation of University of Tunis.

The Virtual University of Tunis (www.uvt.rnu.tn), a public scientific and technological institution created in January 2002, whose objectives are focused on supporting the digital transformation of the Tunisian public university for the benefit of innovative training and research, rooted in addressing societal challenges and achieving sustainable development goals, and building bridges and a techno-pedagogical collaboration mechanism within the national and regional ecosystem (Education - Enterprise – State).

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research is a public entity engaged in the development and implementation of higher education and scientific research policy, the supervision and monitoring of higher education programmes, research and innovation activities. The Department is responsible for: - Develop and implement higher education and scientific research policy. - Monitor the activities of universities, higher education and research institutions and research structures. - Ensure the academic life of students and coordinate the activities of the offices of university works. - Coordinate and monitor international cooperation in higher education and scientific research.

Founded in 1365, the University of Vienna is the oldest university in the German-speaking world and one of the largest in Central Europe. She is associated with 15 Nobel laureates as well as a large number of historical and academic personalities. Currently, around 89,000 students are enrolled at the University of Vienna. They can choose from 184 study programs, including bachelor’s and diploma programs, master’s, doctoral and doctoral programs. With 10,381 employees, of which about 70% (7,538) are academics, the University of Vienna is the largest educational and research institution in Austria. The University of Vienna is made up of 15 faculties and five centres, dedicated to basic and applied research. In addition, several research platforms and networks have been established to promote particularly innovative interdisciplinary research projects. The university is also home to the largest number of research infrastructures in Austria.

The University of Granada (UGR) was founded in 1531. It currently has 7 campuses, 70 bachelor’s degrees, 103 master’s degrees and three doctoral schools, and over 56,000 students. The UGR has a long tradition of international academic cooperation in order to deepen the process of internationalization of studies, teaching, research and management. For years, it has been at the forefront in Europe in terms of mobility of students, teachers and administrative staff. In recognition of its work, the University of Granada has received the Gold Star from the Erasmus programme.

The Fondation Maison des Sciences de l'Homme supports innovative research in the humanities and social sciences, and disseminates knowledge to as many people as possible. Founded in 1963 by the historian Fernand Braudel, the FMSH pursues its initial project of “promoting, on a global scale, the study of human societies and the humanities and social sciences”, while adapting to contemporary realities, to build a world where the pluralism of knowledge and its free circulation contribute to progress towards more inclusive and sustainable societies.
