December 7th, 8th, and 9th, 2020

Studying and Publishing Arabic Texts with Digital Tools: Training in Digital Philology (online), for master’s, doctoral, and research levels.

This training is part of the initiatives of the Scientific Interest Group “Middle East and Muslim Worlds,” following the proposals outlined in the White Paper “Towards Open Science? The Digital Transition and Research on the Middle East and Muslim Worlds in France.”

The aim is to raise awareness within the community about what is commonly referred to as digital philology.

The primary objective of these initial three days of training is to introduce participants to the opportunities offered by digital tools for the study and publication of Arabic texts and to engage in discussions about the specific challenges associated with Arabic texts.

Overview :

This fully online training consists of three parts.

It brings together French and international researchers who will share their insights on these topics based on their experiences:

  • Monday, December 7th: An introductory and reflective day on the possibilities offered by digital tools for philology, particularly for texts written in the Arabic script.
  • Tuesday, December 8th: The second day will explore the challenges related to building corpora, their interpretation, and encoding issues.
  • Wednesday, December 9th: The final day will address various aspects of data analysis and publication.

A detailed program will be provided at a later date.
